Importance of Name Tags in Pre-School
Pre-school teachers often see new children not only at the beginning of the New Year but often throughout the year as well. When a new child begins pre-school, they have a hard time making new friends and fitting in with other children whether it is at the beginning of the school year or at a later date. Using name tags gives each child their own identity while providing the teacher with a way in which to remember the student’s names.
When a teacher can quickly glance and know the name of the child, it not only helps the teacher know her student, but also gives the child a good feeling that the teacher knows their name. The child may not realize that the name tag is the item helping the teacher. Nothing is worse at any age than when someone you look up to forgets your name. Self worth is very important, especially during the younger years when their personality is growing. Using name tags will ensure you as a teacher aid in giving your students self worth and a great attitude.
Along with aiding the teacher, the child has an identity that is different from the rest of the children. This will help instill confidence in the child when it proudly displays his or her own name. Everyone likes to be recognized. Wearing name tags allows each child to be independent in a small way while making them different from the crowd, but also lets them know they belong. With all the children wearing name tags including the teacher, the children will know they belong to this special group.
Pre-school may not be the time when children begin to write their name, but seeing it written on their own name tag will help them identify their name when they do see it written. This will also help them as they begin writing the letters of the alphabet. They may soon realize when they write the letter “a”, that they have an “a” in their name and so on and so forth. Not only will they begin to recognize their own name but it will help them recognize other letters of the alphabet that spell their friends names as well.
